Aikido 合気道

Aikido is a Japanese modern form of martial art, translated as "The Way of Harmony with Ki". Its effectiveness is the use of smooth, soft, circular movements while maintaining a firm center. It is possible to defend oneself from an opponent of superior size and strength, hence suitable for all ages, including children, ladies and the elderly.

The aim of Aikido training is not perfection of a technique or skill, nor to cause destruction, inflict injury or emerge as the winner. Rather, it is to harmonise or become one with nature, and it is this aspect that is appealing to many. Through Aikido practice, one's character is also developed so that one becomes focused with a strong mind within.

Congratulation Team Republic Aikido!

As you guys know of, the annual Youth Aikido Meet 2 has come to the end on 16th October 2009

It was a very successful school-based event hosted and sponsored by Republic Polytechnic(Team Republic) and Aikido Shinju-kai. It is an event to bring along aikidokas(aikido practitioners) from various dojos that falls under Aikido Shinju-kai, to give them a chance to practise/experience with different kinds of trainees that they have not came about before, and to learn from each other. And also for other viewers from the public, to understand what aikido is about.

Our Chief Instructor, Philip Lee Sensei(6th Dan), was invited to be the Guest-of-Honour for this great and memorable event, to lead the seminar and as one of the judges for the demonstrations (competing among various participating schools, to show the audiences and judges the arts of Aikido in their best form) , along with a 4th Dan James Moy Sensei, and various instructors from Aikido Shinju-kai.

Near the end of this great event, we are proud to announce that, Team Republic Aikido, crowned Champion once again for the 2nd Youth Aikido Meet 2009 with a great performance. And also, a big congratulation for Team National Junior College(NJC), for crowning the Runner-up for their cool and artistic performance. Other participating schools includes: Singapore Management University(SMU), and Anglo-Chinese School Independent (ACSI). We would like to thanks these schools for their participation and making this event a huge success with their great performances too. A round of applause for them.

Last but not least, we can see that the guests and participants are enjoying their reception with the foods and drinks served to them, to bring this event to a good end.
